Realizing that it was already lunchtime, Melanie hurried to the cafeteria. She went through the lunch line, grabbing a sandwich and paying with her lunch card. She smiled at the people behind the lunch counter, and faced the cafeteria tables. She usually ate in the library or outside, but almost always alone. She dind't know where the library was, and felt that being at a new school she should find a table. She looked up and spotted Jason playing with an apple and sitting alone. She walked over to him, and asked if she could sit down.

Renee walked into the lunch room, and got a bottle of water, and sat down at an empty table. She scanned the lunch room, noting that there was no one she really wanted to talk to. She saw Maggie, and saw a freshman walk up and ask to sit down. Renee had never tried to be friends with Maggie, not that she really wanted to, and was perfectly content with sitting alone. In fact, most people would rather not approach her. She over heard others saying she looked scary. And she liked it that way.
