My eyes opened, light from my clock radio beside me flooding in, reading 4:56 AM, I closed my eyes again, wishing to shut out the new day. I've been needing sleep less and less lately, it seems. The thought of sleeping now was gone, so I rose, opening my curtains, revealing a dark starry night, the crescent moon's blue light creating an illumines glow to my room. Pictures of many different memories hung on my wall, pictures of friends...or not so much friends anymore. Once a human finds out you're a witch, a demon, they aren't so attracted to you anymore. I sat on my bed and held up a picture of a boy I thought loved me. Dominique Max, a boy with sandy blond hair and green eyes, a muscular build, his arm around my shoulders at a park on a bench. My eyes looked at the camera, one of the many things that makes me a freak. When I'm captured on photograph, my eyes turn bright purple with white pupils. The second he saw the picture, he looked at me and asked me a question that still haunts me: "what are you?" I still wake in the middle of the night, telling him to run.
Dominique was killed by a vampire, right after he tried to kill me.
I walked to my closed where my broom lay hidden behind clothes, and took it out, the dark wood and twigs gleaming in the moonlight. A warm breeze brushed my cheek. Maybe, just this once...
I mounted the broom and it rose with a gentle push, soaring out the window, following where I wanted to go, like it could read and obey my thoughts. I rose past the trees, free in the sky. For once, I didn't worry about not being seen. Why not let them see me? The sane part of me knew that wasn't even a possibility. A small tear crept out of my eye. I brushed it away, feeling foolish and childlike.
If I'm going to go to the school, I need to practice hiding what I am.
