As they went down the road, Evie’s sense of humor was lost, and her eyebrows burrowed in concern. Derek seemed deep in thought back at her house and it had her concerned. She worried about him all of the time, her protective nature kicking in, sometimes she was too protective. Her grip tightened around him in a loving embrace. Thoughts of what she would do if something happened to him, or if someone did anything to him crossed her mind. None of them were very nice. Once they were at school she would have to ask him about it. Also, she would have to ask him as to why he had such little rest the night before.

As they passed the people they both knew, she smiled, even though they couldn’t see it, it was more a habit then it was a genuine salutation. When they pulled into their school and parked, Evie eagerly jumped off of the bike before Derek had hardly turned it off, he hadn’t even put down the kick stand. Bouncing from her toes to her heels she waited, somewhat, patiently for him to get off as well and get his things. Once he was done, she pounced on him with questions, “Derek…what was wrong back there? Please tell me, I only care.” She was saddened a little by the fact that she asked him, yet she herself was hiding something from him…Maybe she’d tell him later, at lunch, or whenever they could get a moment alone. He deserved to know. It wasn’t like it was a big deal, it had only been happening as of recently. She realized there was a change around her but she couldn’t figure out what.

Before he could answer any of her questions, Evie noticed Rikki alone near the school, she looked sad. At once Evie’s attention was turned solely to the girl and nothing else, her mind had been bouncing around all day, it wasn’t like her at all. Maybe it was the nightmare, or not being able to go for a run, but whatever it was, it was uncommon. Her legs itched to go to Rikki, but her heart held her there with Derek. As soon as she figured out what had been going through his mind, she would ask him to go to see Rikki with her.
