Raine watched dryly as the strange boy named Tyler ran off with his torchic, not checking back to see if she followed. In all honesty, the offer to start off together startled her, but she didn’t really care either way. However, Raine wasn’t really the type to trail after someone else, so she thought this was a helpful turn of events.

“Well, Luce, everyone’s off to train,” she said to her mareep as she grabbed another pokéball. “Let’s get these pokéballs and do the same, shall we?” The mareep bleated in affirmation, and they went to wait in the long line. The items cost a lot more than she was expecting, and she muttered something about overpricing vital goods as she paid the four hundred pokédollars.

She strapped the pokéballs to her belt which now held the two ready to use in addition to Luce’s. “Let’s be off on our way then, shall we? You want to get stronger, don’t you?” she asked. Luce nodded eagerly in response. Despite his timid nature, he did want to improve. Smiling, Raine pet his head. “Alright then! Off to the wilderness!”

And she maybe if she was lucky, a few interesting encounters. Raine could never pass up a bit of thrill.

“Oh right, I need to figure out how this thing works,” she mumbled as she walked out of the PokéMart. She fumbled with the C-gear and Xtransceiver on her wrist. She had found it among her father’s old belongings – apparently it was an extra set he didn’t have use for when he left. “Is there a map function?” she asked herself. “Ah, found it.”

Briefly examining the map function, she said to Luce, “Looks like we’re heading off to Route 4.” The mareep nodded in response, visibly excited.

Leaving the city made Raine feel that her journey was truly beginning, but it seemed to make Luce feel a little more uncertain. Eagerly walking on ahead through the grass, Raine noticed a bit too late that the mareep having a bit of trouble keeping up. A good distance ahead, Raine stopped her gait and watched Luce try to totter toward her. “If you don’t hurry up, some wild pokemon’s going to get us,” she called, half-joking and took a few steps toward her mareep.
