Netanya had stepped forward to shake the guy's hand (awfully friendly for a supposed competitor, but then who was she to judge?), when he stopped. His eyes were somewhere above her head, and his hand went right for a weapon. Well. She wasn't dumb, and knew that didn't signal anything terribly good.

Okay, maybe that depended on your definition of "good." Technically, they were supposed to find and bag the little buggers, so maybe having them around here wasn't such a bad thing- oh dear there were four. That wasn't "good" no matter how you sliced it, now was it? Immediately having the useless instinctive reaction of throwing her hands up and over her head, she ducked to the side and tried to figure out exactly how she was going to handle this. All the semi-reliable-looking literature on the subject indicated that imps were trickster spirits, who thrived on causing minor misfortune to humans. She was pretty sure being maimed or killed was worse than 'minor misfortune,' so really without reliable information, she was at something of a loss.

Maybe there was a chance the trickster part was still true? One of them was chasing her, forcing her away from her ally and deeper into the woods, which really she had a bad feeling about. This was always the part in horror movies where the minorities died- granted, the guy she'd left behind qualified, too, but she was both Middle-Eastern and a girl, so really the chances of her surviving this were not spectacular if things continued to proceed in this manner. "Uh, hey," she called back at the imp. "I, um... challenge you to a game of riddles? First person to stump the other wins?" Did imps count as people? They were supposed to be able to understand human language, right? Which one though? "Uh... te reto a un juego de enigmas? Je vous defie a un jeu de devinettes? Don't make me whip out the Italian on you. Or Latin. I could preform an exorcism, you know!"

She didn't think it was all that important to inform the thing that she was Jewish, after all.
