The imps jumped on Ayo like lightning, and in a second he was down. He couldn’t loosen the grip of the imp holding his legs, and in moments the other imp would be eating his head… He saw for a split second the evil expression (if such creatures had facial expressions, Ayo wasn’t sure) in the leader’s face as he got closer and closer, swinging Ayo’s own blade. How ironic. To be killed by a monster using your own weapon. Ayo was sure the leader, for it was obvious he was the leader, was enjoying it. It was obvious because he was the one who didn’t have to get his hands dirty… Yet.
All these thoughts ran in Ayo’s head for half a second. Now all he thought about was surviving… To become a hunter, a famous hunter, the star of the organization… All that, of course, if he managed to leave the woods alive.
The imp was moving fast from the right towards Ayo’s face…. Too fast, actually. He couldn’t change his direction now even if he wanted to. Ayo reached with his right hand the other short blade, and raised it in the direction of the imp, waiting for the impact with both hands firmly holding to the blade’s handle…
When the monster realized what would happen, he panicked. Ayo saw it in the imp’s eyes, right before its face clashed violently with the sharp blade. The impulse of the imp’s own speed was all it took for a resistant steel to meet a soft, tiny brain. Ayo pushed his hand, and the corpse of the thing fell, with the blade still stuck right in the middle of its eyes.
The imp holding Ayo’s legs seemed surprised, but did not let go. Too bad, Ayo thought. It was time he taught these creatures some manners.
The African man grabbed the ground under his left hand, and pulled out a soft mixture of dirt and grass. Before the imp could do anything, he threw it at its face, hoping it would blind it for a second and let go his legs. If it didn’t work, there would be not much of a body left to bury…
