"I won't see loyal servants cleaning up the mess of a child when there is actual work to be done." Adam remembered a time when the pranks were less likely to cause bodily harm and just led to someone getting wet or dirty. They were annoying times, that was a definite, but at least it didn't have a chance of breaking someone's head open. As to why they were there, if Matthew hadn't wasted his time smearing oil across the floor, he would have likely been told the reason for this family gathering. It would be more deserving to let the child go wondering, but that would lead to him continuing to ask the brothers that stood here and the one's who would be on their way. So as to not subject them to such an annoyance he told him the answer to his repeated questions. "We're here to meet a group of people. Now stop chattering or you'll be cleaning the floor with your tongue." He assumed that they would be there until everyone was present so he wanted to silence any chances of annoying remarks now. Wearing the apathetic face he normally donned upon consciousness, he looked toward the group of girls to see if anything had changed. It hadn't.
