In the ensuing chaos, Derek scrambled between younger students frantically trying to run from the violent conflict. His mind was focused on the lovely girl he had only gotten to know the name of. The fear that he might see her hurt in the midst of this sudden terror made him feel weak. His heart pounded furiously at the thought of losing her. He pushed the commoners aside as he valiantly headed towards the source of the distress. His fear and doubt gnawed at him like a gaping jaw, threatening to devour him.
He was stopped dead in his tracks by an encounter with an Institution aggressor. Derek grit his teeth in annoyance. His foe dropped to his knees, a bloody mess, and was no more in a flurry of violent gusts of wind.
" Derek!" Basil shouted from across the hall. " Kids like you and me are the ones who need to stand up to these bullies. We should stick together. Where the hell are the teachers?"
" The Institutions gotten very aggressive lately." Derek spoke sternly. "Go find your girlfriend Basil. I can take care of myself. "
