A brownstone on the corner of Luna and Liber, the home is decidedly modest compared to its neighbors. It boasts well-tended azalea bushes beside the three stairs leading to the wooden door with a bronze, old-fashioned knocker. There is no doorbell. Inside, there is a welcome mat and a series of black and white photographs on the walls, interrupted only by one color picture. In the main entryway, there are stairs leading upstairs, a dining room to the left, and a living room to the right. Each are full of antique furniture and decorations. In the living room, there is an enormous icon of Christ crucified, a piano, and an old couch.

For once, Ari perceived her former director as right. She had to tame her temper and prioritize--and prioritize she did. Her eyes lost focus, and--imperceptible to any sensors, for how miniscule a change in reality this was--she allowed her mind to wander. "Damn shame," she murmured in response.

There it was, inside the device George held. All it would take was a second's exploration--invisible fingers probing it momentarily--before there was the most minute tweak. She disconnected the simple yet all too integral mechanism that made pushing the button on the damn thing any more fruitful than a placebo.

After that, she went into a deeper trance. A maddening buzz filled her mind as frequencies weaved in and out of the metals in her mind and her eye. The energy of the Reverence throbbed vibrantly in a way that Ari found impossible to describe, as her psionic abilities lent to her a whole new sense of perceiving the world. Being as she was merely exploring and in no way influencing the ship, there was no way for her to be detected...

It was only a matter of time before she would find the blazing core of the ship--the source of all its energy. Meanwhile, she was distantly aware that Drulovic was speaking. With a faint frown, Ari did indeed reach behind her to rest her hand on her chair, pulling it out to perch herself upon it quietly. For all the world, it would appear that she was bitter but subdued.
