Angel's sharp, angry reaction wasn't exactly what Catherine had expected. It frustrated her as she saw that her companion was enjoying himself; why wouldn't they take this seriously? Something prompted her to take a step away, but the man claiming to be Saint moved faster than she anticipated. Her legs collapsed underneath her, and she fell to the ground with a crunch. Dazed, it took her a moment or two to gather herself up; fighting was not something she was used to, but when she did, she found a knife at her throat. She had no doubts as to who he was now. Saint had a sick kind of smile on his face, like a child got when they were burning ants with a magnifying glass. The fact that Angel was out of her sight didn't do anything to ease the panic building up in her chest. She began whimpering slightly in a most unregal fashion.
He was going to kill her for opening her mouth and saying something stupid like she did. Catherine flinched slightly at his vulgar language, and utter horror engulfed her when Saint glanced backwards at his lieutenant and all the while kept a smile on his face. 

The realisation that this was normal for them hit her like a brick. They didn't need to be serious, they dealt with potential spies all the time.

Even when Saint offered out his hand to her and removed the knife, Catherine found herself shaking and unable to move. She was unsure if he was kidding or not. Cautiously she took his hand. "I apologise if I have indeed offended you or your... Lieutenant."
