Emmalee followed Jack as they walked...in silence. She had opened her mouth to talk several times, but she just couldn't seem to find words. He was very manly and intimidating, how was she supposed to be able to talk to him? And that girl he was talking about, he must be her boyfriend. And what would she think if she saw them together? That could never end well. She had seen how jealous girls could get over boys. It scared her, to be frank.

She was just about to get up the nerve to try to start conversation, as she figured they would need to think up some sort of plan for survival together. Hopefully, there would be more stragglers like themselves out there that they could group up with. She knew that they're survival would be easier with higher numbers. Maybe they could set up some sort of system. She could make a device to provide clean water. Ooo! And maybe some sort of automatic food roaster so they could multitask while their food cooked. All she would need is some scrap metal, maybe a few spare wires and then the fire. The idea of inventing these things made her excited. She opened her mouth, but instead of finding her voice, a shrill scream escaped her lips.

A huge crab-like monster was blocking their path. And it was talking.

She fell on her butt and scuttled backwards a little as she watched Jack proceed to attack the monster. But what if he got hurt! For some reason that thought scared her. She should help him! She hurried up and ran forward to him, adrenaline pumping through her.

"Jack, I'll help you!" she shouted.

She didn't know what to do, she just felt it. Her hand raised towards the monster and something...water? came pumping out of it like a fire hose. It wasn't an extremely big stream, but it was enough to blast into the shell of the creature and crack it a bit.
