William then chimed in on his own behalf which given his current level of intoxication only made matters worse.

Dyew would only make one more attempt at defusing the situation. He did not have vested interest in either man at this point. "He dared because you had not introduced yourself. He did not know who you are for the same reason. He responds rudely now because he is filled with liquid courage and his mind is clouded. His reply to Gui's next questions meant for William paused as he shifted his weight only slightly to the foot furthest from the sorcerer before speaking in a flat tone. "I am sure he does not want to be burnt to death. It would be regrettable for everyone, sober or not." Dyew did not seem bothered by being called a commoner for his part.
