Mercy threw her apple core at the open sewer grate, and it fell in. She smiled- she knew it would fall in. She had perfect aim. Sometimes. She hoisted herself up to stand and looked around. She sneered a a grey shape scuttling across the street. The streets of Washington D.C. were full of rats of every kind- humans and animals. Mercy licked her lips. She wanted another apple. There was a fruit stand two blocks down- she'd go there.
She walked, she didn't really like to run. Her Grey and snowy curly hair bounced in the wind, but kept out of her face. She hated her hair getting in her face. She came upon the fruit stand And made her eyes widen as much as she could. She looked at the man running the stand and said "Sir, do you have any grapes?"
He laughed. "no, just apples darling." he paused. "are you okay?"
Marcy was good at looking sickly, and she put that to use here and now- she looked like she hadn't slept or eater in days. "Erm- I- I think so, sir...."
He looked to the sky a moment, thinking "Oh, honey, here, have an apple. It'll keep the doctor away."
Mercy smiled "thank you sir!" she took the apple and walked away.
Of course, she had already lined her pockets with apples while he wasn't paying attention.
