Gracie looked at the rising sun from her window. “It’s barely five thirty,” she said before she let out a sigh. “I still have an hour and a half before I have to be at school.” I could just hack the system and say that I was there all day, she thought. “Gracie,” Gracie’s mother opened the door with a smile plastered on her face. “I should have known you would be up. Are you excited for you first day of school?” Gracie glared at her mother, knowing she already knew the answer. “No, of course not. I’d rather be off,” Gracie began, but was cut off by her mother. “Off killing someone? Gracie we all agreed it was too much for you. The have brain washed you to where it’s all you think of anymore.” Gracie smiled as she crossed the room and grabbed her backpack. “Mother, they didn’t brain wash me or anything. I loved that job; I was free to do whatever.” Gracie’s mother frowned and shook her head. “You were a toy the government used to their advantage. You followed orders every day, you had no free time.”

Gracie shook her head in return. “No, mother, I didn’t follow orders every day. Besides, you used to work for them to.” Gracie walked out of her room and down to the breakfast table. “Would you tell your daughter that what she did was way different than us?” Gracie’s father appeared from the living room into the kitchen. “Your mother is right Gracie. We were Intel Officers. We didn’t carry out the missions they made you.” Gracie took a sip of coffee before her mom snatched it away from her. “You don’t need to drink this. Have some milk instead, it’s healthier.” Gracie rolled her eyes and snatched the coffee back from her mom. “I’m not like Rosalinda mom, I’m not Miss Perfect.”

“You’re tellin’ me,” her father said as he sat at the table across from her. “She’s more like little Miss Murderer.” Gracie sat back down and started at her dad. “It’s not murder if it’s for the greater good, father.” Her father leaned in and stared back at her. “A murder is a murder no matter what. You killed how many people?” Gracie looked happily at her father and said, “Twenty-nine. And I would have gotten to thrity if you hadn’t pulled me out so fast.” Gracie’s mother pretended to ignore everything her daughter had said and began talking herself. “Now, if anyone from the government comes to your school, run. Don’t be all snooty to the school police officers. And we will be asking your teachers if you were In class. If you weren’t then you will have all you swords and guns confiscated.”

“I don’t see why you guys didn’t take them in the first place. I mean you want me to live a normal life as a teen, yet I have a closet full of weapons.” Both her parents let out a long, tired and aggravated sigh.
