At first she looked like she was scared, or at least surprised. That was understandable seeing as he had snuck up on her, not making any sound at all. That and the fact that he could move very fast. He gazed at her eyes after examining her face, and felt the warmth of her skin against his own cold fingers. He knew she was struggling to make out what she was to do now. Ethan had made a fool out of himself, and it wouldn't be proper to see him again if he didn't apologize to the woman. He wiped her eyes gently and then loosened his grip on her chin slightly, tilting his head with a smile.

"No, please do not hurt him. He didn't mean to attack you, he was drunk. Ethan is a good man, but I should have told him before that I have no intention of being with him. I am all right, or at least I will be after tonight. I do not think it will bruise. I'm sorry you had to see that, Aaron. Ethan has been frustrated with me for awhile, you were just the easiest target to take his rage out upon." she said in that gentle tone of hers, and sighed. Then she removed his hand and took it between her own, but didn't let go. By the look she gave him and the words she spoke, Aaron knew that she wanted the attention and care he was showing her. Not many would do that like he had.
Too bad it would only lead to her demise. But not tonight. She was interesting, and Aaron saw no harm in playing with his food for a while. Toying.
"Aaron, did he manage to harm you in any way? I hope not. And please. . . Call me Emma." She smiled to him, her eyes drying slowly. "And thank you for not harming him. Something tells me that you could have very easily." she said with a smile. Aaron returned it. "No, he didn't." he admitted and held his head up. "Emma," He nodded in understanding. "I know he's a good man, but that was no way to treat a woman such as yourself."
A better man than you'll ever be. his mind went.
"I have a feeling that you can expect a sincere apology within the next few days." Aaron said with a slight smile.

Tabitha called out. Aaron had noticed her standing in the doorway of the tavern, looking at them. She told Emma to have the night off. She looked to have compassion in her eyes, but was quick to hide it with her tone.
Aaron focused on Emma once more, the smile gone from his face. "I would see you safely to your house, if that is what you prefer." he offered and gestured towards the street.
