"Decided to explore past our backyard in Oregon; was lost for five hours," Gale responded, smile turning into a slight grin as Sonny cut himself off. He had been eight; Lila still too young to play with, when he saw a doe and her fawn run into the forest. Curiosity piqued, he had headed back inside to grab a compass he didn't know how to use and a bottle of water, and let his parents assume he was going to play in the yard. By the time they realized he wasn't in the yard he was already in the forest, following what he had thought were deer tracks.
"Longest you've spent doing one thing?" he asked, recalling the several time while younger he had decided he liked something, be it a book or an animal, and focused on it with a one-minded determination.
