Flashes of prismatic colors washed down on the swaying bodies, an entity of one writhing mass that moved fluidly on the dance floor. Sweat poured from the mortals’ bodies, hormones and testosterone becoming tangible in the air. Every exhale, every breath, emitted the sickly sweet smell of alcohol into the air, but even sweeter was the heated vibes they sent off, making everyone’s heart pump faster and their minds dim until they were lost in themselves.

Curling tendrils of black hair at one part of the dance floor touched those around them. Silver-lensed aviators glinted and reflected the rainbow of colors that bore down on her face. Typical scowl marking the curve of her mouth, even as she grinded and swung her hips to the beat of the music. Her feathers shivered on her back, where her wings were folded neatly and tightly against her skin. The instinct to release her extra appendages was enormous, with the amount of pleasure racking through her body.

Dancing could do that to her. Or rather, dancing in the rancid cloud of sweat and alcohol, rubbing up against other heated bodies, was what did it to her. The girl’s mind was free to forget the nagging thoughts that always tugged at the back of her mind. She could lose herself in the beat, become nothing but one piece of the ever-moving puzzle. It was Heaven. No, it was better than Heaven.

With that analogy, a criminal laugh surpassed Riley’s lips. Her biker boots stilled for a moment on the floor and beneath the lenses of her shades, she spotted a gap in between two bodies. Before it could disappear, she lunged forward and let out a deep breath when she made it out. Another person filled her spot after only a second, the single being losing one limb, but never stopping. It never stopped.

Riley wiped away a few beads of sweat that had accumulated on her forehead. It took a lot of effort to do that to an immortal, but Riley had been going for four hours straight. She damn well needed a drink, even if alcohol failed to affect her system. She’d grown intolerant of it over the past hundred or so years. Still, it wasn’t like she couldn’t enjoy the taste.

The bartender set a shot glass on the counter even before Riley could sit down. The Fallen gave the man a quick salute, waving him away with two fingers, and threw the whiskey to the back of her throat. It didn’t even burn as it went down. Still, her insides warmed up when she felt the alcohol spread through her veins. Her wings shook slightly underneath her tank top, though that was only because she was attempting to stretch them without being blatantly obvious that she had two raven-like wings growing out of her back. No need to kill any mortal witnesses tonight.

But the club would soon shut down and be left for the Fallen, where they could stretch out their plumage, and bask in their freedom. Freedom from Heaven, from duties, whatever it was, they could just enjoy themselves. Speaking of enjoying herself, Riley downed four more shots before she twisted around in her barstool and propped her elbows up behind her. Some of the mortal men glanced her way, seeing the amount of cleavage exposed under her low red tank top, spaghetti straps baring her shoulders and most of her chest.

She cocked her head to the side and watched them; her Aviators still over her eyes even though the club was dark, save for the lights that broke through the darkness. Riley decided that she wasn’t in that type of mood tonight and pointedly tilted her head away from the men. It wouldn’t be long now, until they were whisked out of the club anyway, and the Fallen could come out to play.
