"That is so freaking awesome! You are officially the coolest person I've ever met!" Emerson laughed nervously, running his fingers through his hair while hot red ran up his neck and lightened his tanned face. He watched with fascination at the grass airplanes flying around him, trying to keep up with Lux's questions.

“I’m not sure if my ability ‘works’, or anything. I just focus on what shape I want to become and I...” he laughed, twisting himself around to follow the airplanes’ paths. “I just focus and my body morphs with my mindset.” He shrugged. “Once you get over the fact that you’re becoming another being, you don’t feel a thing. I guess that’s why I came here, to learn more about it.”

Her last comment made him laugh aloud, and he turned to watch her with bright eyes as he answered. “Well I’m not genetically normal, now am I? Or anyone here, for that matter!" He took a breath, about to tell her about his mother, but his breath caught in his throat when the boy, Tucker, suddenly got up.

Emerson watched in amazement as the boy morphed into a cheetah. Yes! Emerson thought, a gaping smile spreading across his face. Tucker and him shared an ability, how cool! The older boy seemed to know more, though, so Emerson fell quiet and watched as the cheetah-boy raced with strong legs pumping and the wind ruffling through his fur.

Emerson, still watching Tucker, spoke again to Lux. “That’s the kind of thing I can do.” He smiled, excited about what he would tell to his parents. This school was definitely getting better and better.
