Lilla Rowan

She could tell by the look on his face, the draw of his eyebrows and the thin line of his lips, that he was examining the inevitable. At one point, as she looked out of the corner of her eye, she could see the way he stood against one of the tall posts of her bed with his arms crossed and his gaze adverted elsewhere. Lilla knew he wasn't afraid; or, she assumed he wasn't. Brooding? Worried, maybe? Honestly, she couldn't tell, but even knowing she was meant to be on Shigan's side, she couldn't help but feel a little bad for him.

She wasn't ignorant to the aspect that this was the most important thing he'd done - he'd said so himself - and, as far as she was concerned, it was probably one of the few, if not only, negotiations he'd ever done by himself. And treaties rarely went without some kind of arrangement or wedding proposal for the public to know they were earnest in their proclamations - as if weddings truly proved they both were on good terms.

And here she was, having to be another obstacle, another way to make him fail and provoke war. She paused, her dresser drawer open, a shirt in hand.

"I'm going to cause this war, aren't I..." Lilla murmured. No, she didn't want this. She didn't want to bring something so deadly to her country, to possibly be the cause of something so horrid on both fronts.

How could she live with herself if it was her doings, her words, that caused her king to declare war? How could she live with being in such close quarters with Relos after the king would decide his actions were disgusting and wrong, and see that same expression on his face that was on it right now?

She put her shirt away and closed her dresser drawer, before openly staring at the man in her room. His gaze to the floor, his nails digging into his forearms, something foreign swirling in his eyes and a deep breath expanding his chest. It took him several seconds for him to notice her silence and her stillness, but by then she had already come to a conclusion - and the quirky, half-true smile that lit up his face when he noticed her appraising him didn't change her resolve.

Lilla wasn't care if not causing war would make the king strip her of her pay, but she wasn't going to allow herself to become any more of a pawn in this game. She wasn't going to let Relos have to stew about his implications just as she was.

She couldn't, and no one was going to be any the wiser of her decision. She'd let Relos and the King go on believing she was actively pursuing her goal and trying to make the prince take a wrong step... but no matter what was to happen, she wasn't going to allow war to envelop both of their countries.

Before he could really speak, that quirky grin still on his face, a servant appeared in the doorway connecting their two rooms. She spoke quickly and articulately.

"Prince Relos, the king awaits you in the garden."

His expression hardened and she saw his knuckles turn white, his smile faltering for just a moment. Like that, the servant exited through Relos's room, and he pushed off of her bedpost to follow her out.

"Wait, Relos."

Lilla took a few steps toward and, with a beat of hesitation, put a hand on his forearm and stood up on the edges of her toes. She brushed her lips against his cheek before resettling on the floor.

"Good luck. I'll be here when you get back."

The gesture was merely meant to be a departing one, much like what he had done last night, but she had a feeling that - like his - it would be taken for more than it's worth. With a bit of a smile in his direction, he left, and for the first time in two days she was left wondering what she could do, and with a soft sigh she sat down onto her bed.
