Jacob just laughed it off knowing full well that she was terrified of water. "We're on an island if you hadn't noticed," he threw his head back and thought. "If not the dock, then we can just walk." Jacob loved water. The sound of waves and the feeling of diving calmed him. It was natural relaxation and it was the one thing he could not understand from Isabelle. He knew that she almost drowned when she was seven and that was certainly a plausiable excuse to be afraid of water, but he couldn't accept it. He always wanted to get Isabelle accustomed to water, or at least comfortable enough not to panic if she was even near it. "How do you take baths?" he questioned teasingly, prodding a snappy response. It was funny how opposite they were, but hey, opposites attract. Like the opposite poles of a magnet. Something obviously brought them both here at the same time.
Once they got into the elevator, Jacob pressed the button to go down to the lobby. "Ok,I suck at lying,so i'm just going to tell the truth and believe it or not it actually is. It has brought me good luck,I wore it when I got the record deal and when my frist album came out. I know that i'm kind of old for that good luck, bad luck kind of thing but really has helped me out." He stared at the beanie as it found its way into his hands. Feeling the soft fabric and the quiet memory it held made him a bit hopeful. Maybe he hadn't moved on at all. And maybe Isabelle was still walking in the past just as Jacob was. The day he bought it for her was a weird one. They were having another small quibble and Isabelle wasn't talking to him. Jacob couldn't remember exactly why she was angry at him. It was possibly because he had gone off on a couple of annoying kids. They were walking by some stores and Jacob saw the blue beanie. Leaving Isabelle's side, he ran into the store and purchased it. He was gone just long enough for Isabelle to notice and get a little bit worried. He returned with it in his hands. Smiling, he placed it on her head and then kissing her cheek. "Sorry, babe," he whispered and intertwined his fingers with hers so they were holding hands. The image of them flashed in his head and was gone as quickly as the anger in her eyes when the beanie was first on her head. "Here, you can have it back if you want. Give it to that special someone you probably have in your life now."
"Nah," Jacob said. They had reached the bottom floor and the elevator doors were opening. He walked out still holding the beanie. He twirled it a little and then went up behind Isabelle and placed the beanie back on her head just like the first time except no kiss and no holding hands. "Wouldn't want your luck to run out. Keep it." I'm not going to take anything else from you anymore. He smiled and looked around the lobby. It was mostly empty except for the receptionist at the desk. She looked up at them with tired eyes and then went down to whatever she was doing. Jacob looked back down at Isabelle, his six foot self still towering over her height. "And you never answered how you could put up with all that shit my family put you through." Jacob raised his eyebrow. He would be sparking some emotion from answering this question. "Well, I did it cause I had to. And your family isn't terrible. The first days were hell. I felt like they were examining a lab rat, but you know I'm not to type to give up so easily," he grinned, stroking his ego again. "I don't think I could do it again," he laughed. "They are your family. I was your boyfriend at the time so I had to deal with them." I saw you in them.Crazy enough. I loved you so I figured I could love them too.
They had reached the exit doors to the lobby and he opened the doors opened for them to leave. He stopped just a little ways ahead and looked down at Isabelle so she would stop as well. "Where do you want to go?" Putting the same caressing spin to it like old times when he would ask her where she wanted to go on one of their dates. Maybe it was being quite a bastard for doing the same thing as before just to jerk back memories, but it wasn't on entirely on purpose. Being back with Isabelle, not together, but next to each other made the years that they were apart melt as if they were all just yesterday. And the day before they were together. It was familiar ground, strangely enough.
