I always arrive early. Which doesn't run in the family, that I know of...Maybe I'm some sort of freak of nature. Sigh...all I do is write...wouldn't be the first time someone's said that's weird.

Kalie sat in the driver's seat of her mom's gray car, notebook and pen in hand, glancing to the mobile zoo entrance. Not many others had arrived, a family with two kids, a teenage couple. They had started making their way over to the ticket booth, but Kalie waited. The zoo wasn't open yet. Standing around with those other guests didn't seem like the most fun, so she watched them from here, the two kids practically bouncing up and down in their matching blue and black tennis shoes.

I'm not in a freak zoo though, so does that mean I'm not a freak? I wonder what these things are anyway...

She wondered what she would discover here and what she could write down for her stories or simple observations. Without the AC running, the heat was building in the car, so she finally let out a sigh, closed her notebook, pocketed the pen and got out the car. Pushing her black low pigtails behind her shoulders, she slowly started for the entrance, checking that her wallet was indeed in her black bag.

The family was buying tickets. Then the couple. Kalie approached and smiled slightly as she was given her ticket as well.

Here goes nothing, she thought, wondering what her mom and that dirt bag of a boyfriend of hers were doing right now.
