Delilah sat Indian style at the counter of the cafe, tapping her bottom lip with the eraser as she considered the possible answers for her math problem. While being a home-schooled student was great for someone of her affinities, at times she wished she could have the aid of other students who were learning the same material. In boredom, she closed her math workbook, folded it under her arm, and trotted quietly into the back lounge where the cafe employees often hung out. The room was empty and quiet, but to her it seemed so loud. There were so many things, so many scents, so many colors; it almost overwhelming - almost.

She crumpled into the love-seat in the corner and pulled a blanket over herself. Lazy and tired, the brunette rubbed her face and hands into the soft fabric, releasing a sigh. To the naked eye, she had seemed extremely indifferent in the duration of the day. In truth, however, Delilah's mind was alive with commotion. Her mom had invited a bunch of teenagers from the local high school and university to come to her eighteenth birthday party. Most of the people who had been invited were regulars at the coffee shop and she knew them to some extent, but aside from their names and their favorite types of drinks, she knew nothing about them.

Oh, and then there was Alexander.

The mysterious, kind, exceptionally handsome boy who had visited the coffee shop a couple of days earlier was coming to the party as well. She had actually invited him. What had she been thinking? Delilah squealed quietly into her pillow, overcome with both excitement and horror. She had even gone to the extent of asking him to meet him here, at the coffee shop, whereupon she would take him back to her house. She blinked. Suddenly, the brunette sat up straight, startled. "I didn't tell him it was my party," she realized allowed, and a whole new wave of emotions poured over her head.

Thoughts scrambled, Delilah rubbed her thumb over the purple band-aid that laced the inside of her elbow. Earlier this morning, she had gotten her blood drawn at the local blood bank, something she did often. A light smile upturned her lips. The employees at the blood bank were always greatly thankful for her donations - after all, she was one of only four people in the whole town who had AB-. The thought of being able to help others lightened the anxiety of the party from her shoulders. At least she'd done one good thing today. Maybe that good deed would make the night a good one.
