Embarrassment flooded over Delilah as he stood. He was taller than her and looked down at her with gentle, truthful eyes that made her want to melt. She felt the heat rise in her cheeks - in an instant she was thankful that he'd taken a moment to look her over, no matter how rude it had been (she didn't find it rude, though, which was another new concept to her in itself). When he complimented her, the words felt stuck in her throat. It almost hurt. A nervous smile tugged at the corners of her lips, the bottom of which she bit out of habit.

"Thanks," she somehow managed to breathe out. The brunette, unable to find the appropriate words, rubbed her arm quietly, thumbing the purple bandaid every now and then. She nodded briefly in response to his question and was about to head towards the door when her mom cleared her throat behind her. Tense, she glanced at the woman over her shoulder, fearing she'd say something unnecessarily embarrassing.

"I except everyone to be gone by midnight," her mother said kindly with a smile. "Don't worry about cleaning up. We can work on it together in the morning. I'll be back by around one. Girls night out," she added in explanation.

Delilah nodded again, relieved. "Let's go," she said quietly, tugging briefly at Alexander's sleeve before heading out of the door. Her house was only down the street, about a five minute walk or a two minute drive. But it seemed so far at that moment. So very, very far.
