Though she couldn’t have imagined the searing pain that bar of metal must have left, she had to giggle—and cringe—at his enthusiasm. Her father had once taken her anvil shooting, though the blast was horrible and it sent the anvil high into the air, nothing really got harmed in the process. It was fun when her father took her places.

“My home is very…secluded,” she began a bit uneasily. “Like I said, we don’t live far from a town, but I don’t go into it often. There is a little farmer’s market where we purchase our food…I go to that sometimes but I never get to talk with anyone. There is a little school in the center of town, next to a library. My mother homeschooled me, but I do go to the library sometimes. I mostly stay on my property because it’s safe.”

Gabrielle began to draw a large rectangle on the countertop to represent the piece of property she lived on. “My father’s workshop and forge is on the right side and my house is on this side,” she said, pointing to the left of the rectangle. “Behind the house is a forest. At the very end of the property is a stream that lies in the center of that forest. I think the Naiads live on the other side.” The blonde blushed. “I’ve never crossed to find out.”
