Billy nibbled on her ice cream as she waited for his reply. It was no shock to her when he responded, "I do enjoy it. It's all that I ever wanted." Well, that made sense. Who didn't want to be a rock star? The fame, the money, the women (or men). It all seemed so glamorous, but she had to wonder if it was worth sacrificing your privacy and home life. "When all that you are told from your parents is that you'll never amount to anything besides for working the land as the rest of your family always has, you tend to want to prove them wrong. So I did. I love this life. I've proven myself over and over again. To answer your question, I really don't worry about if my "good looks fade" or I get arthritis or I can't sing anymore. I have acquired quite a bit of wealth and if I had to I could live the rest of my life off of what I have right now," he continued.
"Well, that must be nice," she said, thinking aloud. [b]"I think that if you're doing something that you love you shouldn't regret it, no matter the end result." "Well, I can't exactly agree with that," she laughed. "I see patients come into the hospital regularly with meth and other drug problems... I'm sure they're doing what they love, but, I don't agree that they shouldn't regret the damage they've done to their bodies, or their families..." "So, do you enjoy working at the hospital? or do you prefer working at the coffee shop?" She had to smile. Maybe she was being a little to hard on him? "Well, I do love my job at the hospital but it gets to be very sad sometimes... it's not the happiest job in the world, sometimes, but there are other times... times when you save a life or you see a cured child... they make it worth it. The coffee shop is nice, too, mostly because I enjoy the smell."
"So what is your family like? Do you have any siblings? I'm an only child, I'm afraid. Then I met Jay and the twins and they became my second family." Billy laughed. "Okay, so.. My family is... Well, they're a bunch of rednecks from Texas, and yes I have two brothers. One older, and one younger. I always wanted to be an only child when I was growing up but now... I like knowing that I can call them if I ever need them. I'm sure your band is a lot like that. I nearly had to beat Jay with a bat to get him to leave you in the recovery room." It was nice, though, to see such loyalty. The band could have made a lot of money on pictures of Zayn laid up in a hospital bed.
"Can you come over to play with me, Ms. Billy, tomorrow before my Mommy comes to get me? Pretty please?" Billy shifted in her seat a little uncomfortably, she didn't like telling the girl no, but it was entirely inappropriate. "Oh, princess, I'm afraid not...But I would really love to see you at the park again sometime. I like to jog, so maybe I will see you next weekend?" Billy turned her hues to Zayn apologetically. It was just too soon for her to be going back to his place, she barely knew the man. Celebrity or not, she wasn't that sort of girl.
"It was very nice meeting both of you, again," she added, finishing off her ice cream. "I think I'll have to buy one of your CDs, so I can see what all the fuss is about." Although she much prefered country music to rock music, Billy couldn't help but want to give this scrawny pale man a chance. Covered in tattoos and a little different from the rest, but famous, so there had to be something about him. Maybe he would sing for her sometime?
Billy stood and pulled at her slightly wrinkled tank, trying to straighten it out again. "I, uh, well... See you next weekend?" she offered them both a smile, and a little wave to the girl, and then walked outside to get back in her car and go home. When she got there, Jake was totally uninterested in her. He still sat under the ice machine, waiting for that random splurt of an ice cube which had entertained him for hours. "Yes, Jake, Pray... pray to the Ice Lord!" Billy giggled and side stepped the cat, pulling out a thing of tuna for him and placing it on the counter. Maybe she should have gone to Zayns? It would have been nicer than staying home alone?
No... she would just end up another fan girl in his line of who-I've-slept-with. With a little sigh, she walked into the living room and sat down on the couch. She had forgotten to give him her number...he'd probably forget all about her. Jake popped up into her lap, curling up against her stomach with a purr. "At least I still have you, Jakey," she sighed.
