Professor Oak nodded.
"Ah, indeed. I have not had the pleasure of caring for Dragon type Pokemon, as they are exceedingly rare, but I have heard that they can be difficult to raise. Every Pokemon is unique and requires special care. You may take one of my Charmanders, as I would love for him to have acaring trainer. I'm so glad to see that the young people have such loving and tender attitudes towards Pokemon."

Seth and Charmander were doing quite well. Charmander had risen to level four, and they were on their way to level five. As they proceeded deeper into the forest, Seth caught sight of a mystifying sight. A green humanoid looking creature with wings and blades on its arms was tearing through some rival Pokemon at lightning speed.
"Whoa...What is that thing?"
Seth whipped out his Pokedex and pointed it at the creature once it stopped moving.
"Name: Scyther, element: bug, known for its quickness and power."

Seth put away his Pokedex.
"That thing has incredible fighting spirit. He would make a great addition to my team. Let's get him, Charmander!"
The little Lizard formed a stance, and Scyther caught sight of them.
"Charmander, use Growl!"

Charmander used Growl, lowering Scyther's defense. However, the bug closed the distance and smacked his lizard with a Quick Attack that sent him flying. Seth caught Charmander and set him down.
"Don't give up! Hit him with a Flamethrower!"
The Lizard unleashed his special move, only to have it dodged.

Scyther closed in for a second attack, but Charmander's battle experience was kicking in and he barely dodged it.
"Now, counter with a Fire Spin!"
His lizard spun and smacked Scyther, who reeled back a bit because he was still weak from the Growl.
"Scyther!" It shouted before charging in with another attack.
This one was too quick to dodge, but Charmander managed to avoid the brunt enough to not take too much damage.
"Wait until he closes in again, then nail him with a Flamethrower."

The aggressive Scyther came in, and was promptly blasted with Charmander's most powerful current move. The creature fell down, and was panting heavily as it struggled to move. Seth unclipped a Pokeball from his belt.
"I promise to heal you and take care of you once this is over, Scyther. Welcome to the team, buddy."
He hurled the Pokeball, which bounced off of him before sucking him into the ball via a red light.

Now was the real test, since just because a Pokemon is in a ball does not mean he will stay there. More powerful Pokemon in particular can break out of the ball even when weakened. The front of the Pokeball blinked red as Scyther struggled to escape. Then, it turned white, meaning that Scyther was his Pokemon now. Charmander had gone up to level five for winning the battle, and Seth was jubilant as he clipped the Pokeball onto his belt. He then turned and began walking back to Pallet Town.
