Devin was barely paying attention to the Discovery Channel. It was boring really, dreary, and she quite, did not enjoy it. Her eyes flickered away from the screen for a moment and her eyes settled on Jefferson. Her eyes widened and she felt her heart skip a beat. She had to calm herself down, she knew this much but just something about him drove her mind to race. She switched her gaze back to the TV, her legs still draped over the arm of the couch. She hadn’t noticed his rocking or his…oddness. However, she finally heard his voice.
Can you name me four consecutive days that begin with the letter 'T'. He had asked. Her eyes finally moved from the television and settled on the boy with the hat. Four consecutive days? The pills she took was actually keeping her calm and willing to speak with him. But she felt stumped by his question. She had half the mind to turn away and ignore him but he was first to actually want to talk to her.
“Tuesday. Tea Time. Thursday. Terrific Friday?” She asked, her eyes finally settling on his. Her lips curved up slightly in a smile and her hand brushed through her hair. “I think tea deserves to be its own day, too, don’t you?” She finally added.
As she waited for his response, her attention was directed to Kaleb. At first, she didn’t recognize him but she didn’t like the idea of him being so…bold. She rolled her eyes and for a moment, glanced at the television. A nurse came by and gently placed her hand on Devin’s face, and the girl quickly withdrew her head, her eyes locked on the woman’s. “Don’t touch me.” She said simply, and the woman sighed.
“You had a fever last night, just making sure.”
