The King and Queen of Caritus smiled to each other as they conversed easily with the nobles that had asked for their council. They sat around the table, servants walking about asking the people around the table if they wished for refills of wine or food.
Raine chuckled lightly at the noble woman as she spoke, "I must say the city is flourishing under your rule your Highness." Alaric lifted the china cup to his lips and took a sip of the tea, "You flatter us Mrs. Ilton."
The sound of an explosion racked the city, causing the servants to scream and cower, china hitting the ground, smashing into a million pieces, their assorted drinks spreading over the ground. Alaric jumped to his feet, rushing over towards the large windows, shock alight in his eyes. Unlike what he was expecting, no smoke rose from the streets, there was no black mass on the horizon foretelling an armies arrival.
He frowned, turning to see the same look of confusion on his wife's face as she peered out from the window, her hands clutching the skirt of her dress, "What in the name of Lux do you think that was?"
Alaric shrugged, "I have no idea.." He turned to see the guards run in, flustered, as if searching for some hidden assailant, Alaric snapped his fingers, catching the men's attention, "Go out and find the source of that noise. Report back here the moment you find something."
The Guards nodded, saluting for a moment before running as Alaric's voice rang out, "Go! What are you waiting for?!" He allowed his face to relax as he turned back to the window, smiling softly at his wife's comment, "No need to loose your temper dear, the man was just being polite."
