"I can't say much right now, I told you already that I'd explain it to you when I get home but right now I have to go I have someone waiting for me and it's best if I don't keep him waiting."
Kano kept his eyes on Misaki as she moved her face to the ground while she spoke. He didn't want to leave her, and he was actually considering dragging her away from the place, but what good would that do? This might be a big town, but if she was involved in something that might get her into trouble then it wouldn't be too difficult for these people to find her. On the other hand if he let her go then she might get herself into even more trouble. Did he even have the right to tell her what to do? It's not as if he completely understood what was going on, after all. In fact he was thoroughly confused and couldn't put the pieces together at all. All he could do was follow what little intuition he had and it was telling him that this place wasn't safe.
"Don't get me wrong I don't want to do this but I have to, I have no choice, now let me go if I keep Daichi waiting he's gonna get suspicious and send people out here."
"But, Misaki!"
She took a step back to try and pull her wrist from Kano's hand, but he tightened his grip. "Kano let me go."
He shook his head and took a step forward, opening his mouth to speak again, but suddenly stopping. Kano was silent for a few seconds, his eyes sad and focused on the ground. At last he opened his hand and freed Misaki's wrist as he straightened his posture. His arms rested at his sides, though the hand that was originally keeping Misaki from going anywhere was now clutched into a fist. "Okay," he said, raising his eyes from the ground and giving Misaki a smile. "I'll hold you to that. You're going to tell me when I get home tonight, and they'll be no getting out of it, either."
For some reason he felt his chest tighten a little as he smiled, but he chose to ignore it best he could.
"Be careful, okay." His voice was unusually calm and he raised his bawled up hand to lightly tap Misaki on the top of the head as he spoke. He then turned around and began to walk away, his hands in his pockets again. He had to trust that Misaki knew what she was doing and that she would be okay. If anything he would just cause more trouble for her if he stuck around. Besides, if he were late to work his boss would kill him. Though he couldn't really allow himself to use that as a reason to leave his friend, he had to come up with something to keep him from feeling a little less guilty.
The walk to the shop where he worked was further away than he thought it was and he ended up having to make a run for it not long after leaving the lower part of town. Luckily he made it just in time, but his work pace was a little slower than usual and he continued spacing off now and then. He was still worried about Misaki, and it's always been difficult for him to concentrate on more than one thing at a time. I can't wait to go home...
