The bird again appeared to be attacking her, and Alice hid herself again, screaming. But after a moment, she realized that the bird wasn't really doing anything. In face, it was acting much like a puppy would.
"What...?" she said aloud, shaking her head. It was the strangest--well one of the strangest--things that had happened to her today. She scooted herself so she sat down, her back against the wall. She tried to calm it down, using some force at first but then stroking its feathers. Her heart was racing, but it seemed as though the creature wanted to play. She chuckled a little. Then she noticed a horrible scar. She gently stroked its head.
"What happened to you?" she whispered.
