Fedelia could not process things quickly enough. The situation made her feel as though she'd suffered a brick to the head. One hand rose from its place at her side to grasp the place where she felt her heart beating. No...not beating, but trying to wrestle its way through her rib cage like a little alien and burst forth from her chest. An abrupt outward gasp pushed its way from Fedelia's lips, breathing one word:
"Hatchet."
Her mind dizzied, if just for a moment, and she swayed in her spot. Her shoe clopped in a step backwards. She could not tear her large black eyes from his face.
