It was clear that he was carrying it for sinister reasons, no normal, or sane, person just walked around with that kind of weapon.

The man clutching the grenade ran forward, pulling the pin on the weapon and dropping it near the creature. He ducked down and ran blindly away, hoping to avoid slamming into the golem and getting caught in the blast or generally getting caught in the blast at all.
