With some space made near it Midas tried to push itself up, eye sliding into the vertical slot in its head. One of the potshots from the fleeing Russians hit the eye just off center, sending cracks through the golem's vision as the crystal fractured and it slumped back onto the ground with a heavy thud, cracking the concrete on impact.
From there it lay motionless, eerily still as if dead.
