Chairs, Harper decided, were much more useful than he had originally thought. By the time he had barreled through the exit, the others trailing behind him, he had already made up his mind to keep the one he was holding. It was nice wood, too. Maybe he could find a way to make it collapsible and--

His thoughts were interrupted by the blond boy's voice and then Haru, who counted out loud who was present and who wasn't before returning back into the tavern. Harper gave an exasperated sigh after looking around at their exact numbers. "I told everyone to haul ass," he stated, rotating the chair so that it was upside down and touching the ground, and he leaned against it, holding the legs, "'s not my fault they didn't listen."

His cheek still felt hot where the guy had punched him, probably swollen and red. Nothing some ice couldn't fix, though.

Never a fan of waiting around, Harper dug into his pocket and pulled out the wheat roll he had stored. Unwrapping the cloth napkin around it, he let it fall on the base of the chair and bit into the still soft bread. At the second bite a sharp pain emitted from the back of his upper jaw, and when he quickly pulled the bread away, he felt something small and hard drop onto his tongue. Spitting it out into the palm of his hand, he realized it was a tooth.

"That asshat knocked out my tooth!" he exclaimed. Closer examination in the dark street revealed a metallic luster. "It's my goddamn gold tooth, too! I knew that dentist was cheap." Grumbling, he shoved the tooth into his pocket and pulled the bread apart into strips, chewing on the opposite side of the tooth's origin.
