Jette Raynehell

The ancient spires of Stella Academy stood in regal contrast against the clear backdrop of the midday sky. Soon, dusk would set in and light the towers and grounds ablaze in warm shades of gold and crimson. For generations this structure has stood, not only as a noble symbol of strength and knowledge, but also as a comforting beacon of hope for humankind. If the walls of Stella Academy could talk, they would speak of decades of tradition, rich history, and the countless memories made by the many students who have called these hallowed grounds their home. It was beautiful.

Jette hated it.

A lone satchel slung across his chest, the boy stood in silence, glancing up at the academy towers. Towers that would soon be his prison once more.

'And just like a fool canary, I fly right back into my cage.'

The boy scoffed in disgust. Truth be told, Stella Academy wasn't all bad. The grounds were pretty nice, and some of his classes were actually rather interesting. It was the people he couldn't stand. The students and teachers who marred what might be a pleasant learning experience.

All the older professors seemed to do is go on and on about tradition and history and how every student there has a greater purpose in life and blah, blah, blah... It was sickening! How dare they just lump all the students in the academy into one large group? To say they were all the same! Bullshit. Jette was most certainly not like the other students at Stella, always running around blabbing about their Mana Arms and trying to show one another up. And everyone always wants you to be so involved! Track and field, book club, science club, swim team, bird-watching club, fencing, volleyball, baseball, home economics, debate team, tech club, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera -

'Gahh! It's maddening!!'

Why the hell does everyone have to always be doing something!? Teachers were always telling the boy to join an extra-curricular activity and some students even had the gall to approach him directly with some lame-ass sales pitch. All the talking and chattering and begging made him wish the entire school would just crumble down on top of everyone inside.

So why even bother returning?

Jette wasn't entirely sure of that answer. Despite how much of a hassle Stella Academy was, another, quieter part of his mind held on to the flimsy hope that maybe, just maybe his time here would be spent making friends. Like the countless manga and comic books he'd read, school life - academy life in particular - was supposed to be filled with memorable moments and life changing events taking place alongside the many friends made during your time there. It sounded great, in theory. But what a drag it -

A sudden tickling sensation against his chest made the boy giggle aloud.

"Hey! Ahaha... Remy! Are you finally awake?"

Jette held open the side of his hoodie, revealing a tiny, white rabbit curled up in the inside breast pocket. Large, dark eyes stared up at him as a tiny yawn escaped the creature's mouth.

"We're almost there. You remember the drill, right? No moving until we're back in the dorms." Jette spoke to the rabbit in a soft, childish voice that oddly contrasted his appearance.

With his worries about returning to Stella seemingly pushed out of his mind, the boy's pace began to quicken. Heart fluttering with an odd sense of anticipation, a smile slowly crept across his face. A smile he did not even notice was there.

"I wonder if that dunce, Geneveaux got back before us... He better not have taken the bed by the window!"
