Elijah looked up to the overcast sky as thunder boomed through the air. He's always loved the rain, so he's never really been concerned for getting wet or rained on, so whether it rained or not it didn't matter to him. However, another rumble made it to his ears and he looked ahead.

Elijah was very familiar with the train tracks. He was one of many kids who liked to run along them and play on them. He even would sit y the tracks and count how many cars the trains had as they passed by. One time he even tried to out run one, but even though it was the slowest train he had ever seen, he still couldn't keep up with it for longer than ten seconds. So he was very familiar with the tracks.

But he wasn't stupid.

When he saw the train already so close, he came to an abrupt halt, skidding across the pavement to stop. The sudden stop made him trip and he collided with the pavement with a tumble and roll. He didn't hit his head, or at least very hard, so he was able to look up at the girl, who- wait, was she speeding up?!

"What are ya doing?!" Elijah called after her. She wasn't going to try and jump it was she?! "Ya aren't gonna make it!!" He screamed. But it was already far too late. Before he was even able to finish his sentence, she jumped. He couldn't watch.

Elijah closed his eyes, the blaring of the trains horn and wheels making him wince in fear. The wheels rolled by and clacked against the tracks. He couldn't open his eyes until he heard the clattering slowly disappear. He quickly looked over, not seeing the girl on the other side. His heart started to race and his brown eyes got wide. Did she not make it?! The boy pushed himself up and he took a few steps before stopping with a loud groan. His ankle throbbed in pain and Elijah looked down. He must have twisted it when he fell trying to stop. But he didn't pay much heed to it and quickly half limped over to the tracks.

His eyes scanned the area quickly, though he didn't find any torn clothe or pieces of someone's face, or even blood for that fact. He let out a breath that he didn't realize he was holding in relief. So she made it. Good thing she wasn't dead. He had no idea what he would have done if she died right there. He didn't know or name or nothing, and if she got squashed by a train, no one would even be able to recognize her. He let a smirk reach his lips and he took a deep breath to calm his racing heart. That girl got some guts if he could say.

But she made it...

Elijah's smile turned into a frown and he looked down the tracks at the train that was now off in the distance. She was probably already at the factory by now. The old chap Ken probably already opened the doors by now, and whatever job was opened was probably given to her. Elijah sigh and looked at the ground, then his legs.

His legs stung like there were needles in them and his ankle continued to throb. He plopped himself down next to the tracks and rolled up his pants. There were a few scraps and scratches, but nothing that would bother him much. After all, he was a boy. Boys got scratches and stuff all the time. The ankle wasn't much either. He could handle it. After all, he was the man of the house now. He couldn't let a small sprain slow him down.

Though, Elijah didn't get up. Instead, after pulling his pant legs back down, he set his arms on his legs and rested his chin on them, continuing to stare down at the track at the train that was now long gone.
