He gave a little laugh, realizing how lame the words sounded once out in the air. "Let's just say that I'm not someone who takes love lightly."
"You're welcome," Pendley replied, though it was more of a question than a reply in her book. What just happened? Deciding to leave the incident to itself, she reached up, smoothed Annabelle's hair, and took a step back. "Still hungry?" she asked, eyes focusing on the lunchroom down the hall.
