These deep tunnels dug into an active volcano were built by an unknown civilization. Toxic smoke is a constant hazard, and temperatures can reach levels high enough to kill human beings. Hostile ghosts and fire pokemon haunt this place.
Valorie hesitated a moment, her expression invisible behind the eerie golden mask adorning her face. The mask's design itself was what made it eerie, a depiction of a rather distinct face of agony engraved into it. One could only speculate as to why yamask carried such things, or perhaps they could ask their local professor... It seemed to take a long moment for Valorie and Shu to agree on answer to Nathan's question.
"...People never talk about the negative aspects of immortality. Shu and I understand, though; we know eternal life to be more of an eternal half-life, a state of undeath." the small girl began explaining. "We feel it... It's not true immortality like the kind you read about in books; while most of us stays the same, we can feel a part of us withering away." Valorie explained in a sad tone.
"It's... our humanity." she added after a moment, hesitating a moment to let that sink in.
"I don't know what would be left in it's place, but I don't think I want to find out. Pushing ourselves might be the only way to avoid that fate. Maybe this state of being is just a plateau; all I need to do is try hard enough and I'll eventually rise above it." she mused aloud, turning deeper into the catacombs and beginning to head forward towards destiny. She stopped and turned her head. "And if it isn't enough, maybe someone will remember me for being strong enough to try anyway. Maybe I'll provide inspiration to others. That's how I'd like to be remembered." she added, flashing a optimistic, ever so slightly cocky grin.
With a twist she turned and began heading further into the catacombs, the roar causing her to flinch briefly. "...You said you know this guy?" she asked, completely oblivious to what a groudon was or why Rayquaza was so concerned. Regardless, she did not stop on her trip towards the core.
