Another downside of the first few days of travel, one that Jae may have forgotten, is the crowds of people rushing to reunite with friends whom they haven't seen for the summer. Head down, he quickly steps out of the way of people before they even notice he had been in their path, effectively rendering himself ghost-like. Such light-treading is as easy as breathing for the young man, as he has been doing his best to avoid attention since he was a small child, and first realized that people are terrifying. Well, perhaps not terrifying, but certainly intimidating for the most part. A lot of things are intimidating for an overly cautious, undeniably cynical, and painfully shy sort of person.
Being named a prefect for the Vorne house is one of those intimidating things, because Jae can already picture how spectacularly he'll fail at it. It's not that he isn't a good student, in fact his behavior and grades perfectly justify his position. He doesn't lack confidence, which is also something that the headmaster is known to value.
Well, he doesn't lack confidence in his own abilities, anyway. Confidence in speaking to others would be another matter, and there the problems lie. More likely than not, he will not muster up the courage to try and discipline any students, even little 1st years, in words anywhere above a whisper. He'll see what they are doing, and won't be fooled by lies, but won't possibly be able to reprimand them properly. The very thought of it makes him nervous, in fact. He's never had a problem trying to interfere in the bad behavior of friends, but strangers is a very different matter indeed.
Putting the thought out of his mind, though only temporarily for he is the sort to dwell on things, Jae takes a seat at the Vorne table and joins his peers in eating. He sits beside Eithiene, one of those with whom he has managed to form a friendship with due to initiation on her part, and gives her a smallish sort of smile in greeting. The food looks delicious, as always, and he is happy to dig in. That being said, about halfway through the year he will likely begin to miss Korean food, as this happens every year.
"How was your summer?" he says softly, so that likely only Ethienne can pick up on the words. His Korean accent is always thickest at the beginning of the year, after spending the summer at home. Still, his English is significantly better than it had been six years ago, as is his German. This is one of the reason his parents had elected to send him to the German school rather than an Asian Wizarding school --so that he might improve his English and learn another Western language.
