"You'll have to shoot me if you want that thing on me," Vanessa answered as she reclosed the center console somewhat forcefully.. "And since you haven't yet, I don't think you intend to."
She sat looking out her window as the buildings sped past, and she couldn't completely hide the growing sense of unease. It wasn't just defiance that fueled her refusal. If she where to shift with that thing around her neck, it might well kill her, and it was only a matter of time before she would need to.
"Where are you taking me?" she asked.
