Finally, something was happening. She certainly wasn't a fan of this 'headmaster' so far but the idea of actually doing something pushed her to listen to the man's words carefully as he spoke from the front of the classroom. Apparently they were to have a contest of sorts. This was something Dúyè could get behind. A grin spread across her lips as news that Laurence, their timid little mage, would be the defender. The boy oozed discomfort at the idea, it was clear despite his effort to hide behind a smile, Dúyè said nothing but simply gave him a wave as he left the room. "Haha, well, this should be fun. I'll handle this Etelka, you can just sit back and watch."
Dúyè slams her hands down onto the top of her desk as she rises up to her feet and makes way for the door. The moment she steps outside she stops and takes a deep breath of fresh air, quite pleased to be free of the repulsive cigarette smell of the classroom. After reveling in the clean air for a few moments her eyes open and scan the field, quickly spotting the staff that Laurence had chosen to guard. She slips her hands into her coat pockets as she smirks and approaches the boy, the gears in her mind churning with a plan. Once within the distance of about 20 yards Dúyè comes to a stop and calls out to the mage, "Hey! Laurence, could I take a look at the staff before we begin? I want to get a better idea of what I'm after."
As she expected, the boy kindly nodded and even stepped out of the way to allow Dúyè access to the staff. Casually, she strolled up to the thing until she was right up close. Once there she leaned in as if to inspect the staff before quickly reaching out to grab the thing and free it from its rooted place in the ground. With a wry chuckle and a grin she twirled it around in her hand, "Tada! I win." Looking rather smug she turns towards the headmaster, their group's teacher, and holds the staff aloft in the air. "An A+ performance if I do say so myself! Hahaha!"
