One moment Qin's encampment was laughing over stories before the war, the next all of their weapons were drawn with dozens of carcasses on the floor. It was a counter attack. Most of the ordinary soldiers were doing poorly, only killing one for every five that died. The Shadow Palms, however, did exceptionally well. Only two had been killed in the initial wave, but they had killed five each before going down. Qin sidestepped a spear to the left, slammed his palm up from the bottom grip, and delivered a lethal blow to man's windpipe. He then took the spear and stabbed another man through his chest from behind.

Even as Qin cut more men down in their prime, more of his men were falling by each passing moment. If he was going to make it to Omashu, he needed to escape.

"Everyone! Follow me!" He shouted to the rest of his troops, only twenty strong. He rushed for the weakest point of the ambush, a wall of only three men. Two of them were shot by arrows or impaled by the other greens, the third's rib was broken by one of Qin's jabs. They ran by, many dropping their weapons and shields just to move faster, scattering into the night.

Even though Qin was no longer surrounded, the danger was still there. They were now being hunted now. It was clear as arrows and fireballs flew at them, killing greens by each passing moment. By the time they reached the river only six of them were left. The cliff below was between twenty to thirty feet tall and the darkness made it nearly impossible to tell how deep it was. Ten feet? Five? Maybe even two. It was too hard to tell. "We have to jump." He whispered to his friends. Then, without hesitation, he jumped into the water below.
