She had caught word of the opening ceremony, but for reasons unbeknownst to anyone but those who were familiar with the secluded creature Gwendoline had wilfully neglected attendance to this annual custom. Admittedly, the rumour of human additions to the student roster had peaked her curiosity in reasonable amounts, yet not enough to drop pressing (to her) matters. In fact, the witch was certain she'd be given the chance to study (and experiment with) these... anomalies sooner or later this year, so she wasn't exactly in a rush to meet new faces.
Obviously this was going against unspoken courtesies, but Gwendoline had a feeling that her absence wouldn't be much of a bother unless she'd been a full-time teacher. Which she wasn't, thankfully.
A hand gently turned down the pit that had been cooking several new creations, which were promptly migrated to the witch's satchel after they had simmered down. Speaking of which, she probably should go inspect these new hatchlings under the guise of just going to my room. Who knows, maybe there were a couple that catch her eye.
Tightening the leather bag to her waist, Gwendoline hastily locked the door to the lab as she navigated her way to the dorms. A feat that proved surprisingly... uneventful given the usual mess on days like these. Not long after her stroll through the school grounds, Gwendoline waltzed into the dorm building with the grace that veteran-students have come to expect from the blue-haired witch, calm and dignified, quietly nodding to herself as she took notes of her subjects to-be.
