The trees seemed to whisper to her of their many secrets, as the always had. 16 years she'd been lost within this dreadful haven, 16 long, uneventful years. The Woods kept her hidden from anyone who decided to pass through, kept her within the shadows, kept her safe. Yet, Akane Masame felt only a sense of dread within her still beating heart. She sang to the trees, to the strange birds soaring overhead, always soft, always without meaning. It was this day she longed for meaning as she lay beneath a tall, withering tree.
