Niall watched the man as he moved to go to the ashes again. Why did he blow the top of the ashes? Then he saw the little baby phoenix poke its head out and his eyes widened. Oh yeah. He forgot that the phoenix could be reborn from its ashes. This actually made things so much easier. He could hide a baby from view and plop the little chikadee in the arms of his hire. He couldn't help but smile as he crouched down beside the baby. It was even cuter as a little one. He could still see the flames that warmed its body but it wasn't as fierce as it had been earlier.
The little phoenix squawked and shook off the rest of the ash that was resting on it before she moved closer to the two men and looked between the two intrigued and confused. It was so tiny, it could probably fit in the palm of his hands. Its tail would drape between his fingers he was sure, but that little body would fit. The tiny phoenix fluttered its feathers then and and rushed over to the stranger. She hopped up and down in excitement and chirped. Its eyes screamed its hunger and need for nurturing. It even looked the stranger up and down, searching for something yummy to eat. It probably thought the man was its mother or something. Well, Niall wasn't about to let this man take away his prize.
Niall cooed to the little creature and beckoned it with his fingers. He figured the phoenix was small and naive enough that it would come to him to. He was the second person the bird had laid eyes on after all. And the bird did indeed hurry over to him. Niall let the bird into his hand and grinned when it didn't burn. "You are a cutie aren't you you." he beamed and pet its little head. "Here is that sugar I promised you. " Niall offered a sugar cube and the bird pecked it till it was all gone.
Niall stood up then, phoenix in hand, and looked at the stranger. "Well and good then. I'll be off," he announced and began to rush away. He didn't want to deal with this guy any longer. Who knew what would happen next? The little phoenix wouldn't have that however. It squeaked and even burned Niall's hand lightly till the man dropped it. Then she rushed to the stranger and rubbed up against his leg. If it could purr, Niall could swear it was purring. "What now?" he grumbled. This was getting more and more complicated by the minute. He hated complicated. "Why is she going to you?"
