"All right then. Onward we go.” Kei had to hand it to the boy, he didn’t waste any time. The man made sure that Eos was safely secured in the crook of his arm before he moved so he was walking right next to Niall. He was talking about their travelling plans and Keisuke was relieved they weren’t aiming to make it to a village for the night. It would give him sometime to prepare to see the faces of the people who had chased him out of the village with rage and greed. He listened to the boy talk, trying to remember all the questions he asked before answering them in stride.
“I’m sure Eos can help us stay warm tonight. I don’t carry more than what I need with me at all times, but do not share your food with me I can get what I need on my own.” Being part of the godly realm meant that like Eos, all of his sleeping, eating, and drinking were only habits of pleasure rather then essential actions for survival. He couldn’t possibly take Niall’s food when the boy was dependent on the nutrition to survive, but if he was posing as a regular human eating on a regular schedule would be something he’d have to grow accustom to. “I do not carry weapons on myself, I have never needed too. I can of course help with whatever task you may give me though.”
Looking down at Eos the little bird’s head swiveled between the two of them, her bright eyes extremely aware for such a small creature. Kei looked around their surroundings, the forest was quiet, he couldn’t hear the birds or the buzz of the insects and his steps faltered for a moment. He wondered if he was being paranoid, a lot had happened in a few short hours, his senses felt worn and tired. Surely nothing was the matter, he cleared his throat and looked at Niall. “So why were you searching for the phoenix in the first place?”
Conversation with humans what weren’t trying to rescue their beloveds from the underworld was new to Kei. Being one of the gods that could traverse the river Styx meant getting screamed at a lot by testosterone filled meat heads who thought the only way to get a task down was pummel anything that served as an obstacle, including himself, though beating him up never got them anywhere. The rules of the underworld were strict and without loophole, no one got by without the proper payments. “I myself just happened to see it fly over head. It is not often I get to see creatures of such rarity, it was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up.”
