❝Let the soul leave
before the wind sears
You upon the hollow belly
with its nails so keen
shaped by the volcano’s obsidian
raised drinking glass❞

Niall arched an eyebrow at the man. He never carried more than he needed? So did Niall and that meant he had to carry a bag for his nightly bedding down, medication, and store food that he came across. Not to mention money. Sure he had a pouch of money on his person but he also contained another, larger pouch in the bag. He was never without it so he was fairly certain no one would make it away with his bag. Knowing that this man had never needed to use a weapon was also very strange. This man was either very stupid or very lucky. Maybe both. The guy did happen to see the phoenix after all and Niall himself had only known where to find it because of his Sight. This human was very strange indeed. He still wasn't sure what to make of him. He seemed so simple but there was something about him he just couldn't put his finger on...
When the man announced that Niall didn't need to share his food, he gave a nod. That was good for him and he truly hated the fact that he had to ask him if he wanted food. He hated buying food and there was only so much you could hunt and collect on the road. He was actually running low on his food stores. It was probably a good thing he was heading towards a town. They should be in town on the morrow and then they could buy supplies. "Okay. When we get to town tomorrow, we should buy the things necessary. You buy your own needs and I'll worry about mine," he concluded.
At the man's question of why he wanted the phoenix, Niall stiffened a moment. He hadn't thought of a cover story yet. He didn't want to tell him the truth. He didn't think that this bleeding heart would go with him if he did. If only the bird hadn't imprinted on the bastard! Well, now was a good time as any to use a riddle. "Thou temptest spies secrets mine. Yet thou shrouds in mystery. Your weaves absent thread; steps leave not shadows. Pryest thou fingers elsewhere, least I unravel yours. Mine Sight is strong yet," he answered with a teasing grin.
