What a bold woman she was. Brynjar was quiet as the woman spoke for herself and disregarded the propriety that would've had Patriarch Julius speak first. It was intriguing but terribly annoying. "Handmaiden?" he couldn't help but ask. He looked to Patriarch Julius who stepped forward with the necessary documents. Brynjar scanned them and was surprised to see it in writing, by his father, that Evangelina was bound to him as a handmaiden. It was a very curious thing. Why would his father put in such an odd request? His father had never been fond of Brynjar's pandering with women, so he doubted that her handmaiden duties would encompass such activities.
However, they briefly crossed his mind; she was beautiful.
"Thank you for coming to me this morning Patriarch, you may leave us." His voice was cool and steady as he surveyed Evangelina with a critical eye.
After Patriarch Julius had left, Brynjar stood to his feet. He set the decree upon his mighty oak desk before he came to the other side to size her up better. He was the lion and she was the lamb. He circled her quietly as he took in every angle and attempted to gauge how she felt to be left alone in a room with him.
Brynjar stopped his prowling and stood behind her. He lowered his head so he was close to her ear.
"What are you afraid of Evangelina?" the question was odd under any circumstance. Brynjar asked it because a lot could be learned from how she chose to answer. He knew invading her personal space as he was would unnerve her. He wanted to see how she could handle the pressure of being intimidated by him.
