Benjamin smiled at James's quick change in expression when he mentioned going into the dream world. He watched the excitement flicker from his face to a look of uncertainty. Ben nodded to his question, amused by James's reaction. He opened his mouth to elaborate just as a lab door swung open. He glanced over his shoulder as Rosemary approached them, taking a sip of his coffee.

"Well good morning to you too," Ben said as she picked up a cup, answering her own question. His gaze flickered to her bare feet then back to her face.

He glanced at James.

"James here was just showing me some of his sketches; they're quite good. And I was just telling him that the best way to get a feel of the dream world is to dive right in." Ben finished off his coffee and tossed the empty cup, absent mindedly brushing his hands together. He stared at his fingers for a moment, thinking, before he continued. "If we're going to be a team, Rosie and I need to get a feel of what your dreams are like. I also want to see how well you build and how well you're able to maintain a dream. Don't think of it like a test, but essentially it's a test." Ben threw in a reassuring smile for James, trying to keep his tone light so as not to worry the trainee.

"I'm sure you've covered most of this in your case studies, or whatever the Agency is calling it these days—" Ben waved his hand vaguely, "—But keeping a dream from collapsing is easier said than done. There's also something very...intimate about sharing your dreams with people." Ben kept his gaze on James, resisting the urge to glance at Rosemary's direction. "You open up a whole other layer of yourself to your teammates, and sometimes it's a layer that your don't want others to see. It can feel exposing and strange but it's kind of necessary. For safety reasons, but also because it helps you to trust your teammates more when you know that part about them."

Ben fell silent, suddenly missing the old team he had. Ginny knew him better than he knew himself and he felt like he was cheating on her by allowing a new architect to take her place. She would be furious if she knew. But he had no other choice. Ben finally made eye contact with Rosemary, realizing that he didn't know the last time she went under. Would she be rusty? Wold she even want to enter the dreamscape with them if Dillinger wasn't there? He indicated to James, offering Rosemary a chance to add any input. She would probably be able to articulate it better than he.
