Ben watched James take in everything they had said and felt like he had done nothing to help the trainee's nerves. If anything, Ben just made him more apprehensive. There was just nothing quiet like dream extraction and it was difficult to describe the sensation of entering someone else's mind. He had faith James would do well, but Ben also wanted him to be prepared. The first time he went under, the whole concept had been so alien to him that when Ben woke up, the room was spinning and he leaned over to vomit all over his staff sergeants boots.

It's a wonder how he was ever made a team lead.

Ben turned to Rosemary, her voice pulling him from his thoughts.

"But I trust you."

And there it was, the reason Ben had been trying to escape extraction for the last three years. Her words echoed in his head. He had a responsibility to his team members and it weighed heavy on his shoulders. He gave Rosemary a steady nod of his head to let her know that he understood, but on the inside he could feel his own anxiousness begin to rise. James was new, Rosemary hadn't been under since Dillinger, and he had been awol the last three years. What on earth was Wilkins thinking when he brought this team together? Ben took a breath to steady himself; now was not the time to loose his head. He was supposed to be leading this extraction, he couldn't let his team members see him fall apart.

He brought his hand to his face and rubbed the coarse stubble on his chin thoughtfully. This is why they were doing a test run, to calm everyone's nerves and get them all on the same page. This would be good. He nodded as if to reassure himself then looked up at Rosemary and James, who were looking at him.

"No, please," Ben said quickly and indicated for Rosemary to continue, "Go ahead."

While she put James under Ben leaned back and settled himself in his own chair. He rolled up his sleeves and drew a sigh, reassuring himself one last time that he had made the right choice in coming back to this line of work.
